The 11th Annual Tree City Film Festival
The 11th annual Tree City Film Festival’s 50-hour Challenge was an exciting and intense weekend that invited teams of professional, student, non-professional, and even “armchair” filmmakers to write, shoot, edit, and premiere their own short films in just 50 hours.
Teams started the challenge at the kickoff meeting on the evening of September 8th, where they received a series of elements that must be incorporated into their film – things like a particular genre, prop, line of dialogue, character name, and shooting location. After the allotted 50 hours of the weekend were over and the films accepted, they are juried by a guest panel of judges.
Join us for the film screening on November 4th at the Tree City Film Festival 6pm at Nederhouser Hall at Olander Park in Sylvania. Pizza, popcorn, local brews and the best local films in Sylvania. Awards will be given for first place ($500), second place ($250), and audience choice ($100).
Tickets are on sale at Eventbrite, $10/person in advance (+ fees) or $12 at the door.

50-Hour Challenge
This year’s 50-Hour Challenge will kick off Friday Sept. 8th 6 pm
This exciting and intense weekend invites teams of filmmakers to write, shoot, edit, and publish their own short films in just 50 hours! Each year we host a fun kickoff event where teams draw a film genre, and receive details on a prop, location, character name and phase that must be included in their work. 8-15 teams participate each year and their films premiere to sold out crowds during the Festival. This year’s kickoff event will be held Friday September 8th and you can sign up now!
Shorties-U
Shorties U is back in 2024! Our classes will run the four Saturdays in February 10, 17, 24 and March 2, 9 am-noon, on the campus of Lourdes University.
Shorties U is an engaging four-week filmmaking workshop for youth, grades 5-8. Led by area experts, this creative learning experience takes students through the steps of creating their own short films – including how to develop a story, write a script, shoot on a budget and editing. Youth participants are encouraged to create and submit individual films for the screening, in addition to the team films. $100 fee includes a Shorties U backpack. (financial need scholarships are available)
