Sylvania Community Orchestra
The Sylvania Community Orchestra is a volunteer group of musicians that provides quality music for this community.  The orchestra performs four community concerts throughout the year.  These concerts are free and open to the public.  They are performed in various community venues and are typically held on Sunday afternoons.

The orchestra strives to involve local musicians and performing groups in their concerts.  Northview and Southview high school students continue to be a concert highlight which demonstrates the breadth of talent within the Sylvania community.

Interested area musicians are invited to join our group.  This is a great opportunity to dust off your instrument, support the community and have fun all at the same time.  High school students are welcome with a teacher’s recommendation.  Call SCAC for more information.

Music in the ParkMusic in the Park
This popular summer concert series is held on various Sunday afternoons at Burnham Park.   Local talents perform in a relaxed, casual family atmosphere.

Interested individuals or groups of all ages can receive information by contacting SCAC.

Arts EducationArts Education
Education in the arts is a primary focus of the Arts Commission.  SCAC works closely with the area schools and local non-profits to sponsor programs that serve the needs of the community, especially the children.

A district-wide exhibit is held annually at Olander Park featuring the artwork of students from all of the Sylvania public and private schools.  The exhibit welcomes more than 600 visitors and draws wide praise for the quality of work created by the K through 12 students.

Through a partnership with Olander Park, SCAC provides an art teacher at the park for after-school art classes.  These classes, designed for younger children, are held once a week throughout the school year and are frequently attended by 25 students per class.

The Commission also provides a weekly art teacher for the Sylvania Community Services summer child care program.  These weekly art classes introduce the children to a wide variety of the arts from mural making to visiting the local glass blower.

Public Art
Sylvania Community Arts Commission is the administrator and caretaker of a growing collection of public art within the Sylvania community.  A directory of the items in the public art collection is available by contacting SCAC.  The directory identifies each piece of art, its creator, medium, location and value.

The Arts Commission coordinated the collaboration of the artist, the Rotary Club of Sylvania (donor) and the City of Sylvania (owner) in the building of the new Centennial Arch sculpture and accompanying fountain located in River Centre Park at the corner of Monroe and Main Streets.   SCAC promotes the continual growth of public art while preserving, maintaining and exhibiting the collected works of this community.

The Sylvania Community Arts Commission considers public art a needed contribution to the overall appeal, attractiveness and education of our community.  Public art is a reflection of the values and lifestyles of the people who live in the city and township of Sylvania.
